Maine is a goldfish that has been rejected many times in the past. Due to that, she tries to look cool and jokes around a lot even though underneath, she probably has a lot of self confidence issues. Her beautiful clothing is just a delusion to support that personality she puts on in front of others.
Carried by the currents of the water, she doesn't know where she's going or where she wants to go.
